Sterling J. Blackburn, of Riverton, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, in Riverton. He was 21 years old.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. Stephens Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery in St. Stephens. A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, with a wake to follow at 100 C'Hair Lane.

Sterling Joseph Blackburn was born May 30, 1991, in Riverton, the son of Peter Joseph Blackburn Sr. and Francine R. Shakespeare. His Indian name was YoungChief.

He attended schools in St. Stephens and attended Data Charter School in Albuquerque, N.M., and Job Corp in Utah. He lived in six different states while he was growing up: Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas and California.

His family said he was loved and raised and brought up by his grandmother, Lucy Blackburn at her home in Arapahoe. They said he was funny, outgoing, caring, sociable and well-known. He enjoyed music and helping others, and he loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and friends and family.

He is survived by his sisters, Dezarai Poston, Mary Blackburn, Lorenda Hanway, Shereah Blackburn, Kacey Blackburn and their families; brothers Donald Hanway, James Blackburn and family, John Hanway and son, Peter "Homer" Blackburn Jr. and family, Seth Blackburn and son and Jerome Blackburn; mother Francine R. Shakespeare; adopted mothers Frances Blackburn and family, Lujuanna Antelope and boys, Jane Dewey and family, Angela Blackburn and family and Lucille Camargo; godmother Rhonda Headley and family; godsisters Jennifer Shakespeare and family, Lakesha, Julia and Leah; adopted children Cy, Tae and Amyah Tindall; aunts Germaine Shakespeare, Lisa Molash, Irene Houser, Monica Antelope, Judy Warren, Elsie Charging Crow, Sandra Shakespeare, Ramona Shakespeare and Brenda Hubbard; uncles Melvin Blackburn, Joseph Thomas Blackburn Jr., Martin Blackburn, Weldon Blackburn, Kenneth Blackburn Jr., Robert Blackburn, Kevin Brown Sr., Stanford Shakespeare, Richard Shakespeare and Raymond Dewey; grandparents Kenneth and Evelina Blackburn, Patricia Snook, Bernice Emarthie, Mary Cowboy, Martha Brown and family, Alice Molash and Helen Hanway; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter "Stoney" Blackburn Sr.; brother Saul Thomas Blackburn; grandparents Thomas and Lucy Blackburn, Lucy Ann Williams, Loren S. Shakespeare, John and Anastacia Blackburn, Simon Blackman, Martina Blackbull and Joyce Blackman; and aunt Elizabeth Patricia Blackburn.
