Lady Eagles no. four seed at state

LANDER -- Burlington took its frustration out in a 53-26 victory in a Class 1-A West regional girls basketball game vs. St.Stephen's on Saturday morning at Bob Carey Memorial Fieldhouse.

The Eagles advanced to the game after beating Ten Sleep 57-51 on Friday afternoon in the consolation bracket in the double-elimination field.

The Lady Huskies, who came into the tournament as the No. 1 seed, were upset by Cokeville 52-46 in one of the semifinals on Friday evening.

St. Stephen's was the No. 4 seed and finished one game away from making the Class 1-A state tournament.

The Eagles won Monday in a play-in game over Hanna Elk Mountain to get a spot in the tournament.

In the title game. Little Snake River pounded Cokeville 70-46.

Burlington 53, St. Stephen's 26

The Lady Huskies wanted to show the rest of 1-A they are still a team to contend with for a state title next week in Casper after the upset. .

Burlington jumped out to a commanding lead in the first quarter and breezed to the third-place game. St. Stephen's had a hard time bringing up the ball against Burlington's press.

Burlington outscored St. Stephen's 17-3 in the third quarter.

Marcel Oldman and Shacyria Edmo had 10 points each for the Lady Eagles.

SSHS 57, Ten Sleep 51

The season was on the line on for the Lady Eagles on Friday afternoon, and they came up big in crunch time.

The score was deadlocked 29-29 in the third quarter, but SSHS picked up some momentum in the early stages of the fourth period for a 38-31 lead.

Ten Sleep trimmed the score to 38-37. Jamay Blackburn and Edmo answered with back-to-back field goals .

Edmo continued to be a post presence with another basket at 44-39.

Edmo put her squad up 48-43. Jamay Blackburn had a critical field goal at 52-46. Edmo fouled out of the game at the 1:18 mark. Page Shoyo hit two big free throws for a 54-49 lead to hold off the Pioneers.

Edmo exploded for 29 points in the win. Michayla Mille scored 19 points for Ten Sleep and Halli Stocklin ended at 18.

St. Stephen's -- Jamay Blackburn 4 0-0 8, Uriah Addison 1 (2) 0-0 8, Marcel Oldman (1) 0-0 3, Alana Brown (1) 0-0 3, Shacyria Edmo 13 3-7 29, Page Shoyo 2 3-7 7.

Ten Sleep -- Michayla Miller 5 9-12 19, Halli Stocklin 6 9-17 18, Sharon Eggink 0 0-1 0, Carina Lewton 1 0-1 2, Cassie Mills 2 4-7 8, Bailey Anderson 2 0-0 4.
