'Otello' the next show in Lander Met Opera season

Oct 21, 2012 - Staff

Lander Met Opera's season will continue with the live broadcast of "Otello" at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 in the Lander Library.

This is Giuseppe Verdi's operatic recreation of Shakespeare's "Othello," the story of deceit and jealousy ending in destruction. It is Verdi at the height of his creative power, a work of musical genius. Renee Fleming will sing Desdemona, the role in which she debuted in the Metropolitan's premier of this Moshinsky acclaimed production.

These HDTV broadcasts have been made possible by combined efforts of the Fremont County Library Lander Branch, the Wyoming Arts Council and interested citizens in the community. They are simultaneously broadcast throughout the United States and more than 60 countries in five continents, and Lander is only one of two venues in Wyoming. The first performance, "L'Elisir d'Amore," was seen by more than 100 million viewers. The public can attend these events with a donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students and adults. Lunch can be ordered before the opera and enjoyed at intermission.
