Feb 1, 2012 - By Randy Tucker Sports WriterThe Shoshoni boys fell Tuesday to Burlington for the second time this month, falling 81-50 on the road. The non-conference loss in Big Horn County completes a sweep for the Huskies this season.
Shoshoni trailed early but rallied to a six-point margin at 17-11 on 3-pointers from Jordan Whitener and Josh Thoren along with post play from Nick Wright.
Thoren's trey with 27 seconds left in the opening period cut the gap to six.
The second period opened with Grayson Medicine Cloud and Whitener scoring quickly to cut the gap to 20-15.
Just as the Wranglers had a glimpse of an opening the Huskies slammed the door shut. Burlington rolled on a 23-5 run to end the opening half, with most of its points coming in transition or on second shots off offensive rebounds.
"We didn't play defense very well," Shoshoni head coach Max Mills said. "They exposed some weaknesses on defense that hopefully we can close over the next few days."
The second half was more of the same, as Shoshoni couldn't generate any consistent team offense and scored mostly on drives from Medicine Cloud or pull-up up jumpers from Whitener.
The Tuesday evening non-conference game will be quickly forgotten as the Wranglers position themselves for the upcoming West 2-A Regional tournament in Riverton. Seeding comes down to games this weekend against Big Piney and Kemmerer.
A sweep ensures at least the right to host a pigtail game the Monday of regional week and possibly a third-place seed, while a pair of losses or a split could leave the Wranglers traveling to Big Piney on that same Monday in a loser-out qualifying game.
"The next four games are very important to us," Mills said.
