Oct 26, 2012 - StaffJohn D. Joiner, formerly of Lander, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the Cheyenne Healthcare Center. He was 88 years old.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
John Dunmar Joiner was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
He had lived in Cheyenne for the past seven months and lived previously in Lander, Avis, Pa., and Colorado Springs, Colo.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he served as a deacon.
He volunteered as a clown at a hospital and was Santa for many different organizations. He was past Commander of the VFW 4051 in Colorado Springs.
His family said he loved to sing and was known for being a giving and compassionate person.
He is survived by two sons, Mark and his wife Valerie Joiner of Cheyenne and Matthew Joiner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandsons, Justin and his wife Aspen Joiner of Pierre, S.D., and Jason Joiner of Cheyenne.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mima Joiner; parents Robert Frank and Ethel May (Whitford) Joiner; brothers Robert Joiner and Paul Joiner; and sister Mary Joiner.
