Northern Arapaho Tribe postpones general electionNov 18, 2012 - From staff reports The general election for the Northern Arapaho Tribe will be rescheduled while election officials examine the ballot eligibility of a candidate on the ballot. Voting in the election had been set for Thursday, Nov. 15. The election delay was agreed to after some members of the tribe challenged the eligibility of Kim Harjo, who is running for the business council The former council member had been voted out of office two years ago, and some tribal members say Arapaho law prohibits her from running again until 2016. Harjo maintains that she should be allowed to serve on the council if enrolled voters elect her to the job. No date for the rescheduled election has been announced, but tribal officials said it would take place sometime in December. |
