Nov 21, 2012 - By Randy Tucker, Sports WriterETHETE -- In a battle of unbeaten middle school teams Tuesday, Wyoming Indian pulled away from Shoshoni for a 60-35 win at home.
Entering the game both teams had blown away other conference opponents by lopsided scores, and the opening minutes looked like an even match.
Shoshoni took an early lead, with the Chiefs tying or going ahead by one or two throughout the opening period. The Wranglers led by two at the first break, but the rest of the game was all Wyoming Indian.
The Chiefs rolled in the second on a 17-2 run ignited by a 3-pointer from Buell Robinson. Robinson led all scorers on the night with 25 points, including three from beyond the arc.
Shoshoni's only points of the quarter came on a pair of free throws by Josiah Whiteplume late in the period.
The Wranglers closed to 34-21 in the third, but that was their last hurrah.
Wyoming Indian pulled away in the fast-paced game via driving layups augmented with solid rebounding by Kane Big Lake and Ryan Tiger.
Most of Shoshoni's scoring came from Whiteplume with 18 and Medicine Cloud with 13.
Look for a rematch of these two teams in the WRCAA tournament next month.
