Lorraine Monroe, of Arapahoe, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. She was 57 years old.
A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Davis Funeral Home, with a wake following at Great Plains Hall. An overnight vigil will continue at the family home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Arapaho Catholic Cemetery.
Lorraine Monroe was born July 23, 1955, in Lander, the daughter of Fredrick Herman Monroe Sr. and Joan Caroline (Duran) Monroe. She lived in Arapahoe all her life.
She attended Mill Creek Elementary School and graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1973. She went on to Kicking Horse Job Corp, where she attained certificates as a counselor aide and for office skills in 1976.
Ms. Monroe was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church and Native American Church.
She had been employed at Riverton Memorial Hospital and Wind River Health Care as a CNA and was a child care provider.
Her family said she enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, spending time with family and friends and taking care of her grandchildren. She supported her grandchildren at all of their sporting events.
She is survived by her son, Steven M. Monroe Sr.; adopted son Bryan Sanchez; daughters Drisella Durgin and Amy Durgin; former companion Loren Durgin; father Fredrick Herman Monroe Sr.; brothers Leo H. Monroe Sr., Virgil T. Monroe Sr., Stoney Monroe, Eric Underwood, Michael L. Duran, Delmar Duran Jr., Wesley S. Monroe Sr., Ronald Monroe Sr., Verdale Duran, Forest Duran, Shane Duran, Dominic Duran, Damon J. SunRhodes, Alfred Duran Jr., Tommy Y'Barra, Gaylen Littleshield, Paul Bell, Sheldon Bell, Alfred Bell and Brian Bell; sisters Theda Monroe, Melissa Littlethunder, Reva SunRhodes, Caroline "Tyler" Duran, Erin Duran, Diana Underwood, Chalice Shakespeare, Stephanie Duran, Claudette Duran, Mary Ellen Pingree, Trishanna Monroe, Beatrice Monroe, Rowena Elliott, Chasity Smith, Prisella Bell, Sandy Bell and Valerie Bell; 16 grandchildren, Steven Monroe Jr., Katelynn Gardner, Benjamin Gardner Jr., Shawna Gardner, Malakai Dresser, Lahliyah Dresser, Auburn Bell, Alexcia Bell, Antyn Bell, Aneillio Quiver, George Quiver Jr., Shawn J. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan C. Duran Monroe; son Shawn Durgin; sister Almeta Ute Monroe; brother Alfred Monroe; Cindy Ute; maternal grandparents Steven and Ida Duran; and paternal grandparents Leo and Mary Monroe.
