Nov 30, 2012 - StaffMerle Eaton, formerly of Riverton, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012. He was 91 years old.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Moser Funeral Service Chapel, 3501 S. 11th Ave., Evans, Colo.
Merle E. Eaton was born Oct. 18, 1921, in Riverton, the son of Harvey and Goldie (Gardner) Eaton.
Mr. Eaton was raised on a farm on Riverview Road in Riverton. He and his father farmed together for several years. He worked on Square S Ranch, Piceance Creek in Western Colorado and then Meeker, Colo. He moved to Greeley and worked for the Great Western Sugar Factory in Greeley and Eaton. He was involved with building the walking dragline at Point of Rocks (Bitter Creek) Wyoming. Mr. Eaton was a business agent for Operating Engineers and was involved with building the Wheatland Power Plant.
He is survived by his children, Mary Achziger of Eaton, Dale Eaton of Laramie, Sharon Slagowoski and her husband Milt of Lyman, Judy Mason and her husband Gary of Eaton and Richard Eaton and his wife Bobbie of Silt, Colo.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Eaton and Goldie (Gardner) Eaton; wife Marian Farrens; daughter Jean Ann Eaton; sisters Mildred Chapman and Zelma Smith; sons Daryl Eaton and Alan Eaton; son-in-law Clarence Achziger; and grandson Mark Ashman.
