Lady Rustlers secure sixth seed Tuesday

The No. 6 seed from the Region IX women's North basketball division was secured by Central Wyoming College on Tuesday. CWC held off Little Big Horn College 67-59 in Crow Agency, Mont.

The contest ended the conference season for the Rustlers at 6-10. Little Big Horn College is winless at 0-16.

"I was very pleased with the results," CWC women's basketball coach Serol Stauffenberg said.

The Region IX women's basketball tournament is March 9-13 at Casper College.

The Lady Thunderbirds edged Sheridan College last week and will the single-elimination tournament.

Casper College finished the season 15-1, and Sheridan College is 14-2.

The Class 3-A boys and girls state basketball tournament will now start on Wednesday, March 7, instead of Thursday, March 8, at Casper College because of the conflict with the Region IX tournament. The 4-A state tournament starts on Thursday, March 8, at Casper College.

The Class 3-A semifinals games will be played on Thursday, March 9, at Casper Events Center. The 4-A semifinals are Friday, March 9, at CEC.

The 4-A and 3-A championship games are on Saturday, March 10, at CEC.


CWC freshman Marissa Hogan returned home to play in front of family and friends. Hogan had seven points in the win.

"I'm happy that Marissa was able to come back to her home town of Crow Agency and play well," Stauffenberg said.

The Rustlers end the regular season playing at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Torrington vs. Eastern Wyoming.

CWC rolled past Eastern 98-59 in the first meeting of the season.

The Rustlers had a 39-27 advantage at the break only to start the second half on a 13-0 run in the second half to seal the victory.

"The first 10 minutes we wanted to make sure that we controlled the ball," Stauffenberg said. "I wanted to get some subs in there to get everybody time."

Courtney Patterson led the way for the Rustlers with 14 points. Brynlie Nielsen and Elise Keller had 12 points apiece.
