Poll: Residents favor higher tax for the rich

Dec 4, 2012 - The Associated Press

LARAMIE A University of Wyoming poll shows that residents of the state support raising tax rates on people who earn more than $250,000.

Of 668 Wyoming citizens surveyed, 56 percent support raising taxes on higher income earners in order to reduce the federal deficit. Forty-four percent disagreed.

In addition, 40 percent of those who responded said such a tax strategy would help the economy, while 30 percent said it would hurt economic growth.

The remainder of the sample said an increase would neither help nor hurt growth.

The statewide telephone survey was conducted in October by UWs Wyoming Survey Analysis Center. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
