The Riverton High School boys swim team begins the winter campaign with a pair of meets this weekend.

Friday, Riverton travels to Casper and will swim in the Kelly Walsh pool at the annual Casper Relays. The team will return Saturday to Fremont County and compete at the Lander Invitational.

Riverton's first home meets of the season will be the following Friday and Saturday, when the Wolverines host the Pre Invite meet and the Riverton Invitational at the Riverton Aquatic Center.

Top returning swimmers for the Wolverines include senior Eli Horyza and his brother, junior Eric Horyza.

Eli Horyza was Riverton's top finisher at the state meet last year. He finished in seventh place as the consolation finals champion in the 200-yard individual medley and also placed tenth as a junior in the 100-yard freestyle.

Eric Horyza this year, will work to improve his 10th place finish in last year's state meet in the 50-yard freestyle.

Junior Tyler Matsen should be strong in the 100-yard breaststroke where he qualified for the Class 4-A state meet last year.

Senior Chad Hanson also returns with state meet experience for the Wolverines.

As a team last year, Riverton finished ninth out of 12 teams at the state swim meet and, as was expected, placed third with 200 points ahead of Casper Natrona, with 95 points, and Sheridan with 66 points at the Class 4-A North meet. Casper Kelly Walsh won the Class 4-A North meet with 407 points, ahead of second-place Gillette with 375 points.

Gillette rebounded to win the Class 4-A state swim championship last year with Cheyenne Central and Laramie finishing second and third.

Riverton has 19 swimmers on its roster. Head coach of the Wolverines is Jay Dayton, and Shea Boyle will again serve as assistant coach.

Besides Ely Horyza and Hanson, Stephen Hinkle, Andrew Dayton and Julius Heimann are the other seniors on the Wolverine swim team this season.
