Day care moving to a cozier location

Dec 6, 2012 - By Alejandra Silva, Staff Writer

The owner of Happy Kids Daycare said the new house will have an outside play area and a more at-home feeling.

There are changes coming for Happy Kids Daycare located at 213 W. Main St. in Riverton. The day care has decided to purchase a home at 1107 W. Main St.

The day care's owner, Whitney Rota, decided to move her child care services to a house because she said it would create a more at-home feeling.

At the Riverton City Council meeting Nov. 20, the home's current owner, Colleen Reddon, approached the lectern to tell the council that this would be a smart move for Rota, and it would help her improve the care she provides to the families and their children.

"This would provide her an opportunity to expand the business, make a better place for her children," Reddon said. "It's a big property. She's also gone through all the inspections to see what has to be done before she purchases the property, and that's a real smart move on her behalf."

Rota contacted neighbors to tell them of the move and ask if they had any concerns. Two homeowners responded, and one said noise and traffic would be an issue. Rota plans to put up a privacy fence and said traffic for surrounding homeowners shouldn't be a problem because the main entrance will be on Main Street.

Happy Kids Daycare has been sharing the building at its current location with Riverton's Chamber of Commerce for the past four years. Rota said the new location would provide an outside play area and meals would be cooked there, as opposed to parents having to provide them.

Rota said parents are looking forward to the move.

"They're all really excited about it," she said.

Several parents attended the council meeting to support the move.

The city council approved the application, but day care services won't begin at the new location until all codes are met.
