Dec 6, 2012 - StaffRex A. Petersen, of Lander, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, after a battle with cancer. He was 64 years old.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Wyoming Life Resource Center's Chapel. A reception will follow the services.
Rex Alan Petersen was born July 8, 1948, in Casper, the son of Marshall A. Petersen and Betty (McMurry) Petersen.
He was a longtime resident of the Wyoming Life Resource Center in Lander where he made many lifelong friends with staff and other residents. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.
His family said he was sociable and caring, and he had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed various types of music, especially country western and hymns. He enjoyed sitting out in front of his home, greeting people as they passed, writing letters, listening to his music and singing along with the music or singing his own songs.
He loved to travel, stay in hotels, meet people, eat out and drink coffee. He competed in bowling in the Special Olympics for many years, winning medals each year. He was an ambassador at Special Olympics one year, and he helped carry the the banner during the opening ceremonies.
He is survived by his sister, Susan Shell of Casper.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
