Dec 7, 2012 - By Randy Tucker, Sports WriterIt was a rough start to the home basketball season for the Dubois girls Thursday night at home. Class 1-A Dubois hosted highly ranked 2-A Wind River, and the Cougars roared by the Rams 60-18. The non-conference loss drops Dubois to 1-3 on the season, while the Cougars remain unblemished at 4-0.
Wind River entertains Rocky Mountain on Saturday, while Dubois hosts Farson-Eden.
The first quarter told the tale, as Wind River rolled to a 21-3 lead behind a ferocious full-court press.
"They have an aggressive press, but we broke it and then turned it over after the second or third pass," Dubois head coach Juleen Leseberg said.
The Cougars were paced by Brett Groesbeck with 13 and Lydia Johnson with 11. All but one girl scored for Wind River in the game.
Katherine Finley and Rachelle Leseberg tallied eight and seven, respectively, for Dubois.
Free throw shooting was a nemesis for Dubois as the girls hit just four of 17 from the line.
Dubois has 11 girls out this season, more than doubling the five that played the entire schedule a year ago.
"It's exciting to have enough girls to hold practice," Leseberg said. "We still have a little anxiety from last year, but we're working on relaxing and just playing the game."
Wind River head coach Justin Walker used the game as an opportunity to play a lot of different combinations and put his starting lineup in the game in just the first and third periods.
