WIHS girls win two straight in Montana

Dec 9, 2012 - By Randy Tucker, Sports Writer

Wyoming Indian's girls basketball team is unbeaten in Montana this season but dropped its opening game to Lovell on the way north to the Montana Holiday Class this weekend.

The Lady Chiefs fell to Lovell 60-35 on Thursday but rebounded against Brockton and Lame Deer, Mont., on Friday and Saturday with lopsided 65-27 and 56-23 wins.

The Chiefs opened well against the Lovell Bulldogs but struggled later, tallying just three in the second quarter and four in the fourth while Lovell rolled with 30 points of its own. The score was an unwelcome surprise for Wyoming Indian but Lovell's opening-game jitters were taken care of last week in a 3-A tournament in Fremont County, while Thursday's road game was the opener for Wyoming Indian.

Jocelyn Underwood and Jasmine McGill paced Wyoming Indian with nine points each,.

At the Metra in Billings, the story was much different. The Chiefs were rolling over Brockton from the opening tip. Wyoming Indian amassed 40 points by the half with back-to-back 20-point periods, fueled by 10 points from Loveeda White and McGill and another eight from Underwood all in the opening half.

McGill tallied 16 to lead Wyoming Indian, while White finished with 13. The Chiefs travel to Sheridan County to compete in the annual East/West Tournament against Big Horn, Wright and Tongue River next weekend.
