Dec 9, 2012 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff WriterThe Riverton Lady Wolverines took their first road trip of the season and almost pulled out a hard-fought victory Friday against the Buffalo Lady Bison, falling 46-43. Saturday, Riverton ran up against a very athletic Sheridan Lady Broncs team Saturday and lost 58-21.
With the two losses, Riverton's overall record falls to 2-4.
The the Lady Wolverines will continue non-conference play this Thursday through Saturday when they hit the road again for the annual Flaming Gorge Tournament in Green River.
Friday night in Buffalo, the Lady Wolverines were led by two sophomores. Camey Fegler netted 16 points, and Kiley Ridgway scored 14 and grabbed 10 rebounds. Junior Savannah Salisbury was credited with eight steals.
"Her (Salisbury's) length enables her, and she anticipates so well," RHS head coach Ron Porter said.
Riverton started slow against the Lady Bison but fought back to tie the game at 14. Buffalo drilled a long bank shot at the buzzer and led 20-14 at halftime, but Riverton came back again and took the lead with about 3:30 to play.
"We got off to a slow start, but were in a position to win in a tough place to play. We had four free throws down the stretch and missed all four. That was a big factor," Porter said.
In Sheridan, the Lady Wolverines fell behind early and could not catch up as the Lady Broncs, who Porter believes are one of top teams in Wyoming and will be for several years, scored early and often.
Fegler again led Riverton with seven points against Sheridan, and seven other Lady Wolverines tossed in two points each.
In junior varsity play, the Lady Wolverines beat Buffalo 38 to 29 but lost to Sheridan 44 to 22.
In Green River this week, the Lady Wolverines are scheduled to match up against Laramie on Thursday, Kemmerer on Friday and Rich County, Utah, on Saturday.
