RHS junior varsity girls down Eagles
Dec 12, 2012 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor
Riverton High School had two girls in double figures Tuesday night as the junior varsity Wolverines took a 47-33 victory over St. Stephen's.
Jensyn Pettit and Rachel Rapp scored 10 points apiece for the Wolverines.
St. Stephen's senior Marcel Oldman poured in 27 points in a losing effort in front of her home fans.
"Oldman is a really good player," Riverton girls junior varsity coach Derek Watson said. "She will do damage in Class 1-A. She makes things happen."
Oldman and Uriah Addison were the only two St. Stephen's players who scored in the game.
Addison had three field goals for six points. RHS had eight players make the scorebook.
"We are pretty balanced, and we even keep three sophomores home," Watson said. "A win is always good, but we have a lot of little things that we need to work on. We need to make the smart passes and catching the ball in the post. It's still early in the season."
The Wolverines produced 16 points in the final quarter after scoring 17 total points in the first half.
"We weren't trying to force passes in the fourth quarter," Watson said. "Our girls were starting to move."
The Eagles won their first game of the season last weekend at the Metra Classic in Billings, Mont.
"We made some huge progress on the fundamentals of rebounding, boxing out, dribbling and taking care of the ball," St. Stephen's coach Mike Redman said.
"We were really rusty at the start of the season. We still need to work on conditioning and getting down the court on defense and making that extra effort to keep up with the plays."
In Billings, the Eagles knocked off Frazer, Mont., 66-42 and lost to North Cheyenne, Mont., 65-49.
