The Riverton Lady Wolverine basketball team started slow Thursday, fell behind 18-1, and could not climb back into its first game against Laramie in the Flaming Gorge Tournament in Green River.

When the final whistle blew, Laramie had the easy 77-49 win over Riverton (2-5).

Riverton lost 62-55 Friday afternoon to Kemmerer and will conclude the tournament against Rich County, Utah, on Saturday.

RHS sophomore Kiley Ridgway had team-high efforts with 19 points and Camey Fegler scored 10.

The Wolverines closed the score to 56-55, but Kemmerer hit its free throws at the end.

In Thursday's first game, Riverton head coach Ron Porter was disappointed with his team's play, especially on the defensive side of the court.

"We just didn't defend. We told them that they spot up and shoot it well. This morning, we didn't get out and defend, and that was the biggest disappointment. We looked lost," Porter said.

The Lady Wolverines struggled against Laramie's half-court trap, committing 29 turnovers.

Ridgway led Riverton in scoring with 12 points.

"They are tough to defend, and you can't give them open looks like we did," Porter said.

Laramie had five players hit 3-point shots and were led by Madison Legerski with 25 points. The Lady Plainsmen had five players connect from beyond the 3-point arc.
