Dec 16, 2012 - StaffState Rep. Del McOmie of Lander this month is wrapping up his 16-year career as a Wyoming Legislator, but his career as an elected official didn't start there. McOmie was the Mayor of Lander for 12 years in the 1970s and 1980s.
Elected at age 39, McOmie worked to build cross-county ties with Riverton through the formation of a joint powers board between the two cities for revenue purposes on certain projects. He challenged the 1980 U.S. Census count for Lander, and explored the prospects of building a new, modern city hall to house Lander government.
After three terms as mayor, McOmie re-entered elected service in 1998 and was voted a Wyoming House seat representing House District 54. He announced earlier this year that he would not seek an eighth term, and Lloyd Larsen was elected in November to fill the seat.
