Dec 26, 2012 - StaffDonald H. "Catfish" Cavaness, of Riverton, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at his home. He was 66 years old.
Memorial services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3628, 1409 W. Main St. in Riverton, with the Rev. Father Allen Lambert officiating. Cremation has taken place.
Donald Howard Cavaness was born March 10, 1946, in Cheyenne, the son of Howard Leslie and Phyllis Martha (Pasholk) Cavaness.
He grew up in Riverton and graduated from Riverton High School with the class of 1965. He attended Casper College for two years.
Mr. Cavaness served in the U.S. Navy working as a boatsmate and gunnery. He met his future wife, Dianne, while living in Orange, Calif.
He moved to Idaho and worked at a resort for a year, before moving to Utah and staying there for two years. He then moved back to Riverton. The couple married Sept. 29, 1973, in Riverton.
Mr. Cavaness worked as a general contractor and drywaller.
His family said he enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and spending time in the outdoors.He also enjoyed bowling and spending time with his family, and he was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne, of Riverton; daughters Hope Dawn Cavaness and Danielle Kimberly Cavaness; one grandchild; and brothers Wayne and Gary Cavaness.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry Cavaness.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Riverton Senior Citizens Center, in care of Davis Funeral Home.
