The way it was: New Year's fire engine -- 1961

Dec 31, 2012 - Staff

The Dubois Fire Department had a New Year's resolution late in 1961: Get a new fire engine. In the final week of the year, it came to pass.

Howe Fire Apparatus Co. of Worland outfitted the "bare" truck, fitting it with hoses, lights and insignia according to the Dubois department's specifications, then drove the truck to Riverton to meet up with Arden Coad, secretary of the Dubois Fire Department.

Howe's people offered to take the truck clear to Dubois, but Coad wanted the chance to drive the new engine the 78 miles to Dubois himself. The hand-over tok place at Riverton Fire Station 1 on East Washington.

Other fire departments in Fremont County helped raise money for the Dubois equipment.
