Mar 2, 2012 - StaffEmily Chuman's game-high 14 points paced the Casper Kelly Walsh girls to a 42-33 first-round win in the Class 4-A West basketball regional at Wolverine Gym in Riverton.
Kelly Walsh built a 10-point halftime lead and still led 32-22 in the fourth quarter before Sadie Mortensen keyed a comeback for Green River. Her sixth fourth-quarter points helped the Wolves close to with five points, and Green River's 9-11 free-throw shooting helped narrow the gap with the clock stopped.
But ChyAnna Esau and Lauren Schiller combined with Chuman to hit enough free throws of their own to preserve the win. Esau had nine points for KW, while Mortensen had 10 and Tessa Williams nine for the Wolves.
Kelly Walsh qualified for the state tournament and moved on to the semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday against archrival Casper Natrona. Green River's season ended with the loss.
