Laramie hotel robbery under investigation

Jan 4, 2013 - The Associated Press

The robbers fled the Fairfield Inn with an undisclosed amount of money.

LARAMIE -- Police in Laramie say they're investigating a hotel robbery.

The robbery of the Fairfield Inn happened just after midnight on New Year's.

Police Cmdr. Mitchell Cushman says two men entered the hotel and demanded money from a clerk. One of the men had a handgun.

The robbers then fled the establishment with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police say the suspects are black men in their early 20s.

One was about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and about 150 pounds.

The other is described as approximately 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds.

The men were wearing bandannas over their faces.

Cushman says robbing a hotel is unusual compared to other businesses that typically have more cash on hand.

Cushman said no one was injured in the robbery and the weapon was never fired.

It's an open investigation and authorities are limited about what information they can release.

The police commander could not comment on the amount of money and property taken, caliber of the handgun or the vehicle used.

There are no suspects at this time, though police have sent out information on the robbery to other law enforcement agencies. One question investigators are trying to answer is whether the suspects are local or were passing through town. Cushman said their choice of places to rob was unusual, given other businesses would have likely had more "ready cash."
