Discuss the Shoshone forest plan
The Shoshone National Forest and representatives of cooperating agencies are meeting this week to discuss revision of the Shoshone forest plan.
The meeting will take place on March 7-8 at Big Horn Federal in Thermopolis. Meeting times are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on March 7 and 8 a.m. to noon on March 8.
The public is welcome to attend both days.
The focus of the meeting is the six alternatives the agency has developed. For the last month, Forest Service specialists have been reviewing the public comments the agency received on the proposed draft plan.
Comments were used to develop and refine a range of alternatives. The effects of the alternatives will be analyzed in a draft environmental impact statement, which will be subject to a 90-day public comment period, beginning in June.
The meeting agenda, and other information about revision of the Shoshone forest plan are available at www.fs.usda.gov/shoshone/ and at Shoshone National Forest offices in Cody, Dubois and Lander.
Veterans memorial collecting names
Memorial Day is the cutoff day for veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War to be included at the Fremont County War Memorial in front of the county courthouse in Lander.
Trinidad Herrera is gathering the names of veterans to be included on the memorial. He is asking that people who put their name on a sheet of paper at Day in the Park but are not included on the memorial should resubmit their name.
Anyone wishing to be included on the memorial should mail him at Fremont County Veterans War Memorial, 865 Hobson St., Lander, WY 82520.
Please send the veteran's name, dates of service, a phone number and a $12 per name on the memorial.
Donations are also appreciated to purchase the plaques for the memorial, Herrera said.
