Big road victory Wednesday for Rustlers in Gillette

Jan 17, 2013 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

Central Wyoming College collected a pivotal 64-56 Region IX men's basketball road victory Wednesday night at Gillette College.

The CWC Rustlers are 4-1 in conference play and 14-3 overall. Gillette fell to 3-3 in league and 9-8 overall.

CWC also beat Region IX opponent Northwest College on the road.

"That is a big road win for us," CWC men's coach Shelby Lindley said. "Gillette has a pretty good team. They are talented. They are one of those teams that can beat anybody on any given night."

Gillette College is 6-4 on its home floor.

"We knew that it was going to be a hard-fought game," Lindley said. "Gillette is very good at home. We found a way to grind it out and get a victory."

CWC produced three players in double figures. Davion Pearson scored 16 points. Armani Flannigan and Isaiah Tademy had 15 points apiece.

"Each one of them lifted us at different spurts of the game," Lindley said.

CWC faces Dawson Community College at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Rustler Gym. Dawson is 1-5 in conference play.

"We have to win at home if we want a chance to win this league," Lindley said.

"Armani gave us a lead in the first half," Lindley said. "Isaiah played solid all the way for us."

Tademy finished with three 3-pointers and pulled in six rebounds.

"That was probably one of the best games Isaiah has had in his college career," Lindley said. "I thought that he was aggressive. He attacked the rim. He rebounded the ball well. He is doing good things on defense."

Pearson was clutch in the stretch drive for the Rustlers.

"In the second half, Davion made some big baskets for us," Lindley said.

CWC beat Gillette College 35-30 in the rebounding department.

"Gillette was killing us on the offensive glass in the first half," Lindley said.

They were beating us up pretty good. They are a very good dribble-drive team."

Austin Hudson pulled in a team-high seven rebounds.

"Austin put an end to that in the second half," Lindley said. "I thought that he rebounded the ball like crazy in the second half."
