No 1. Natrona downs RHS girls in West 4-A contest

Jan 25, 2013 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer

The top-ranked Casper Natrona Fillies basketball team proved too much for the Riverton Lady Wolverines Thursday night in Casper.

When the Class 4-A West game ended, the Fillies (12-2 overall, 3-0 Class 4-A West) had a 51-23 win over Riverton (3-13, 0-2).

"We got tired. We've been sick. That is not an excuse but it was apparent from the third quarter on," RHS coach Ron Porter said.

The Lady Wolverine were down just seven at the half and played as hard as they have played all year against the conference-favorite Fillies, according to Porter.

"Our entire coaching staff was very pleased. We took some good steps today," Porter said.

Porter added that Savannah Salisbury and Jensyn Pettit both caused problems for Natrona.

"They are both active. Savannah has quick hands and frustrates people. Jensyn had four blocked shots and was also active. Bree Olson played her normal hard game that doesn't show in the stats," Porter said.

Kiley Ridgway had 11 rebounds to go with her team-high 12 points.

"We told our kids to not back down, and they didn't," Porter said.

Riverton now looks forward to two home games. Saturday, Riverton hosts Casper Kelly Walsh at 4:30 p.m. The Evanston Lady Red Devils come to Riverton next Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest.
