Public invited to draft plans and goals for scenic byway

Jan 27, 2013 - From staff reports

The Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Department of Transportation invites the public to attend a public meeting and workshop regarding the Wind River Canyon Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan.

The Wind River Canyon Scenic Byway is Highway 20, between Shoshoni and Thermopolis through the Wind River Indian Reservation.

The CMP is a grassroots-level participation project, with support from the tribes and the Federal Highways Administration, in which local desires and issues are documented to serve as a general planning guide for state-designated scenic byways.

In addition to addressing issues with the roadway itself, the CMP will also document community goals and develop plans for enhancing and preserving the scenic, natural, historic, cultural, archaeological and recreational qualities of the corridor.

Two public meetings in Fremont County are scheduled to obtain input from residents, businesses, youth, officials and other interested persons.

Both county workshops will be Thursday, Feb. 7. One will be 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Frank Wise Business Center, at the corner of Ethete Road and U.S. 287 near Fort Washakie. The second is 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Convention Center, 900 E. Sunset Drive, Riverton.

Each meeting will provide the same information and follow the same format, and light refreshments will be served. The public will be asked to share their wishes and concerns about the corridor, as the CMP should address and document the needs, desires and vision of the people who live, work and play along the route --not just the jurisdictional agencies.
