Jan 27, 2013 - StaffDoris Posey of Fort Washakie died from natural causes Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at her home.
She was 66 years old.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place, and no services will be scheduled.
Doris Posey was born Jan. 4, 1947, at Fort Washakie, the daughter of Jennie Brandt-Wasson and Roy Wasson.
She was of the Catholic faith and was a strong believer in sun dances, the Native American church and sweats.
She was a cook and janitor at Morning Star Manor, Rocky Mountain Hall, Warm Valley Senior Citizens, and Hot Springs Plunge and Bath.
She also was a tribal station deli worker.
She lived in Albuquerque, N.M., and there she received her culinary arts certificate for cooking.
She was a member of the Rich and Pogee auxiliary.
Her family said she enjoyed life and had many friends.
She is survived by her nieces, Margaret Haukaas and Earli Haukaas; nephew Lyle Haukaas; and the Posey, Enos, Guina, Shoyo, Roberts and Thunder families.
