Big night for Hogan as CWC women win

Jan 27, 2013 - By Bruce Tippets, Sports Editor

The Rustlers host Northwest College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Marissa Hogan was the No. 1 scoring option for the Central Wyoming College women's basketball team on Saturday night at Rustler Gym, and the sophomore responded with a season-high 24 points in an 82-64 win over Little Big Horn College.

Hogan played 31 minutes, hitting four 3-pointers along with five field goals.

The victory kept Little Big Horn College winless on the season. CWC stands at 3-5 in the Region IX North division.

"Marissa shot the ball very well," CWC coach Serol Stauffenberg said. "I was pleased with her drive. She just needs to bring the same level of confidence to each game."

Tina Hosea drilled four 3-pointers and ended up with 15 points. CWC connected for 10 3-pointers in the win.

Emily Smith scored 14 points. Stephanie Smith had eight points and 11 rebounds.

"Offensively, we were more aggressive on our shot selection," Stauffenberg said. "We attacked the rim better."

Stauffenberg felt his players did a good job of using post players in the win.

"We talked about getting the ball inside. When the ball is to our post players it opens up options from the outside," Stauffenberg said.

CWC will aim to continue to climb up the regional standings at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday vs. Northwest College at Rustler Gym

"We need a win against some of the top teams in our standings," Stauffenberg said.

Northwest is 4-5 in conference play and 11-12 overall.

"Northwest likes to score in bunches," Stauffenberg said. "We have to be aggressive on the offensive end."
