Jan 31, 2013 - The Associated PressThe University of Wyoming Cowgirls played the first 10 minutes in The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M., on Wednesday like they had never seen the place before.
Then they played the last 30 minutes like the owned the place. Which after an 18-point win over the Lobos, they kind of do.
Wyoming won its third straight game in the historic arena, overcoming a sluggish first half to dominate the Lobos 72-54 before a crowd of 6,079.
Wyoming (16-4 overall, 5-2 Mountain West) has now won three straight conference games as it approaches the midpoint of its league schedule.
UW will host Colorado State at 2 p.m. on Saturday to close out the first half.
Wyoming made just 4 of its first 16 shots against the Lobos (10-9, 2-4 MW) and trailed 12-9 midway through the first half. But the Cowgirls finally started warming up and outscored New Mexico 20-10 over the final 9:30 for a 29-22 lead.
"The first 10 minutes the game was tied and I stated (to the team) we were right there even though I knew we were not making shots," UW coach Joe Legerski said. "The score indicated we were okay and the players relaxed and played well over the final 30 minutes."
A big basket was a 3-pointer by Kaitlyn Mileto with 49 seconds left in the half, Wyoming's first made 3-pointer of the game on seven attempts.
