Feb 2, 2012 - StaffLorna H. Henderson, formerly of Riverton, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, in West Jordan, Utah, surrounded by her family.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Osmond LDS Chapel, preceded by a viewing from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial immediately follows in the Afton Cemetery.
Lorna Hoopes was born Aug. 24, 1924, the sixth and youngest child of Clarence and Ida Luella Richardson Hoopes, at the family home in Fairview.
She married Carl William Henderson on July 25, 1941, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. The couple bought a ranch at Smoot where four of their six children were born -- Carla, Layne, Donald and Joyce. They left Star Valley in 1952 so Mr. Henderson could pursue a career with Frontier Airlines. They moved to Worland where Rex was born. In 1959, the family moved to Cody where Ronald was born. In 1964, they moved to Riverton. Upon Mr. Henderson's retirement they returned to Star Valley. They made their home in Osmond during the summer and were at their condo in St. George, Utah, during the winter.
Her family said Mrs. Henderson dedicated her life to her family and enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, camping, fishing, dancing and entertaining family and friends. She was active in the LDS church, serving in all the auxiliary organizations. The family said she especially enjoyed serving on the Stake Relief Society board and working with the youth as a Sunday school teacher and as a stake youth drama leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; children Carla and Layne; her parents; siblings Velda Grace, LaVere, Claudia and Byron.
Mrs. Henderson is survived by her brother Warren of Apple Valley, Calif.; children Donald and wife Linda of Henderson, Nev., Joyce and husband Ron of South Jordan, Utah, Rex and wife Pam of Camarillo, Calif., Ron of Salida, Colo.; son-in-law Robert Bratton of Sterling, Va.;18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
