The way it was: Fire hall -- 1988Feb 10, 2013 - Staff Travelers heading through Kinnear notice the handsome Morton-Kinnear fire station with its log front. This picture shows how it came to be. Enjoying a mild mid-winter in 1988, volunteer firefighters set to work renovating an old garage building for use as a second fire hall for their zone. The volunteer labor helped keep costs low, and zone fire warden Clarence Hartbank noted that all money used in materials and professional services was raised through donations and fund-raising projects. Jerry Fehring was the fire chief . One such event, the winter pancake supper, was coming up just before Valentine's Day. A rifle and shotgun had been donated for a raffle to supplement revenue from the meal itself. The interior remodeling was complete, and the department hoped to get the log siding finished by March 1. The fund-raising target for the project was $1,700. |
