Feb 18, 2013 - StaffVera M. Witthar, mother of Riverton resident Dave Witthar, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
She was 91 years old.
Her funeral is at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at the Crown Hill Cemetery, Arvada, Colo.
Vera Mae Witthar was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Thayer, Neb., the daughter of Pierce Lee and Katy Mickey.
She married John F. Witthar in Independence, Mo., before he was shipped overseas at the beginning of World War II.
Mrs. Witthar was involved in the women's baseball league during this time. During the war, she worked for Armour Packing House in Denver.
After her husband return from the war, they farmed in the Independence area and had three children: Dave, Janet and Margaret.
They moved to Arvada, Colo., and had one more son, Mark.
She worked at Lutheran Hospital for 20 years and retired from there.
Her family said she loved to go fishing, hunting and camping, but most of all, she loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Dave Witthar and his wife Carlta, Janet Marsico, Margaret Strasser, and Mark Witthar and his wife Kathryn; grandchildren Aaron, Brian, Jessica, Ben, Cindy Tonya, Cory, Stephanie, Valerie, Kimberly, Shawn, Natalie, Katy, Mark Jr., Tabitha, Kristy and Eli; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband of 64 years; three brothers; and one sister.
