National FFA Week: Wind River

Feb 18, 2013 - Staff

The Wind River FFA Chapter of Pavillion does many activities throughout the year. Among these activities are Career Development Events teams, fundraisers and community service.

The chapter also runs and operates its own metal art business with products created by high school students. The FFA chapter purchased a plasma cam in 2009, which it uses to produce most of its products. The members take orders for custom items. Custom metal art orders can be made by contacting Wind River High School.

The Wind River FFA Chapter appreciates all of the support from around the community and would like to thank them. The chapter is involved in community service projects throughout the year. They participate in highway cleanup and run a Halloween carnival for elementary students. During the Christmas season the chapter provides goodie bags and a Santa for all of the students performing in the elementary and Crowheart Christmas programs.

The chapter does signs, benches, chairs, fireplaces and many other metal art projects. The FFA members are often present at craft fairs around the country. Wind River FFA also has a spring labor auction as a fundraiser, and the chapter sells coffee to the student body every Thursday before school starts. Fruit sales are a big fundraiser for the Wind River FFA chapter, and the members sell a large variety of fruit in December.

Wind River FFA also participates in CDE teams, which consist of meats judging, horse judging, livestock judging and parliamentary procedure. These teams will participate at the state convention in Laramie.

The Wind River FFA chapter will be participating in National FFA Week activities next week. The activities will begin with green hand day Monday, Feb. 18. During green hand day all of the newcomers to FFA will have a hand painted green and will have to wear a green hand themed T-shirt made by fellow members. On Wednesday the chapter will cook a breakfast for all the staff members at Wind River High School. On Thursday the chapter will have a barbecue for staff and students. Also on Thursday there will ag-themed relays for the students in ag classes.

There will be trivia questions and scavenger hunts for all students throughout the week.
