Riverton girls drop another cliff-hanger to Casper KW
Feb 18, 2013 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer
When the Riverton Lady Wolverines have played the Kelly Walsh Lady Trojans this season, one team, it seems, has had all of the luck. Every last sliver of it.
And it hasn't been the girls from Riverton.
Saturday night in Casper, the Lady Trojans were the benefactors of a foul call with no-time showing on the scoreboard clock. At that moment, Riverton had a one point lead, and many thought the game was over.
But it wasn't, and KW's Sophia Hoff hit two free throws after .1 second had been added to the game clock and.
In the end, Kelly Walsh outscored Riverton 19-9 in the final quarter and downed the Lady Wolverines 43-42.
"I thought the game was over, but we shouldn't have been in that position. They made their free throws, we didn't and we didn't box out," Riverton head coach Ron Porter said.
Earlier this year, Riverton lost to KW in three overtimes 51-48, after the Trojans converted two desperation 3-point bombs to extend the game twice.
Camey Fegler, Riverton's sophomore point guard, led all scorers with 14 points, including what appeared to be the game winner with just seconds to play. Sophomores Kiley Ridgway added 10, and Savannah Salisbury, also a sophomore had nine.
Riverton left 12 possible points at the free throw line, shooting just 9-21.
Riverton, now 1-7 in Class 4-A West league play, plays its final home game of the season this Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Wolverine Gym. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
"It starts for us again Tuesday. We need to work to get better every time we step on the floor. I'v always said that I want to be playing our best basketball at regional tournament time," Porter said.
