RHS girls beat Green River for second league win

The Riverton Lady Wolverines basketball team has had several fourth-quarter leads this season that have evaporated like ice on a warm spring day.

Not this time.

In fact, Tuesday night at Wolverine Gym, Riverton pulled away in its last home game of the season. The Wolverines earned their second conference win by beating Green River 53-44.

The win clinches a fifth-place Class 4-A West finish for the Lady Wolverines, who travel to Evanston Saturday for their final regular season game.

Had Riverton shot more consistently from the field and from the line, the score Tuesday could have been a lot worse.

"We missed at least five layups in the first half. But, also, all of our kids really scrapped tonight," head coach Ron Porter said, adding that his team also missed eight free throws in the third quarter.

Camey Fegler led Riverton in scoring with 21 points, and Kiley Ridgway, playing on a sore ankle injured in Saturday's loss at Casper Kelly Walsh, added 12.

"We used Kiley more sparingly. We'll see how she feels, but we can't rely on just her. We need three or four kids to score three or four points and get three or four rebounds, and that's exactly what happened," Porter said.

Five other Lady Wolverines scored at lease three points. No basket was prettier than Taylor Harris's left-handed, wrap-around pass to Bree Olson for a second-quarter bucket that gave Riverton a 10-point lead at 30-20.

"That pass was great, and I thought Kaitlyn Wells and Celia Logan both played well and really contributed to our effort," Porter said.

Riverton's game Saturday in Evanston begins at 2:30 p.m.
