Depleted Cowboys fall behind early to lose at San Diego State
Feb 20, 2013 - The Associated Press
SAN DIEGO -- Its best player was out with an injury, a couple of others were not 100 percent and yet another one went down with an injury.
Add the fact it made only four baskets in the first half and had no answers -- let alone players -- for a bigger, deeper and more talented opponent, it was a long night for the University of Wyoming men's basketball team.
The Cowboys shot 16.7 percent in the first half. They trailed 37-13 at halftime and never recovered in a 79-51 loss to San Diego State in front of 12,414 at Viejas Arena Tuesday night.
This was UW's most lopsided loss this season, and second-most in coach Larry Shyatt's three seasons. It also was the first time it allowed more than 70 points this season.
The Cowboys fell to 18-8 overall and 4-8 in the Mountain West, and they lost their sixth straight game at San Diego State (19-7, 7-5).
The Aztecs shot 68.2 percent from the field, their best shooting percentage since Dec. 12, 2006. They also outrebounded UW 35-16.
