Feb 24, 2013 - The Associated Press

CHEYENNE (AP) -- Events on the 33nd day of 2013 General Session of the Wyoming Legislature: Fri., Feb. 22:

GUNS: A bill that would have tried to exempt Wyoming from any federal assault weapons ban died in the Senate when it failed to come up for a vote.

EDUCATION: Several education bills have died in the state Senate after failing to meet a legislative deadline. Bills that died Friday included a bill to help school districts hire police officers for schools, one that would have increased Hathaway college scholarship awards and another that would make it clear that Bible study courses could be offered in public schools.

LOTTERY: The Senate approved a bill that would allow a lottery and multi-state games such as Powerball in the state. The measure heads back to the state House for consideration of the Senate changes.

BUDGET: Legislative leaders decided not to try to override Gov. Matt Mead's vetoes of some sections of the state budget bill. It would take a two-thirds vote to override a veto.

HATHAWAY: The Senate advanced a bill that changes some curriculum requirements for college-bound students seeking the top two levels of the Hathaway Scholarship.

The bill faces one more vote on the Senate floor.

HITCHHIKING: The House gave final approval to a bill that would remove the state's existing prohibition on hitchhiking.

FIREFIGHTERS: The Senate gave final approval to a bill that would allow retired firefighters to get special vehicle license plates.

VOTING RIGHTS: The Senate for the second time voted to approve a bill that would make it easier for non-violent felons to regain their right to vote.
