Police looking into suspicious trailer house fire

Mar 1, 2013 - By Katie Roenigk, Staff Writer

The Wind River Police Department is investigating a suspicious trailer house fire that took place Saturday morning south of Riverton.

No one was injured in the incident, which was reported at about 9:45 a.m. Saturday by motorists driving by the structure on Wyoming Highway 789 near Rendezvous Road. According to initial reports, the windows of the trailer looked boarded up, and witnesses were unsure whether anyone was inside of the home.

Riverton Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Hutchison said the structure was occupied, but no one was home at the time of the blaze. He guessed that the building was a total loss.

Hutchison said firefighters did not identify evidence that directly pointed to arson, but he said the circumstances of the fire were "kind of suspicious."

"We couldn't find an ignition source anywhere near where the fire actually started," Hutchison said.

He said two engine companies and about 10 firefighters responded to the scene. The investigation will continue through the WRPD.
