Conservation stamp art contest entries due March 15Mar 3, 2013 - From staff reports The deadline for artists to submit entries for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department's annual Conservation Stamp Art Competition, is less than a month away. Artwork must be postmarked or received in the Cheyenne office by March 15. Each year Game and Fish selects one species to be the subject of the competition and eventually appear on more than 100,000 conservation stamps. The subject for the 2014 Wyoming Conservation Stamp is the ruffed grouse (Bonasa umbellus). The ruffed grouse is common throughout the western forests of Wyoming and a small population is found in the Black Hills National Forest in the northeastern part of the state. Although ruffed grouse have two color phases, red and gray, artists should be aware that it is the gray phase found in Wyoming. In addition to having his or her work appear on the conservation stamps, the winning artist will also receive a $3,500 cash award. The second-place winner will receive $1,500; third, $750. |
