Incident at airport was not a crash

Mar 6, 2013 - By Katie Roenigk, Staff Writer

A twin-engine plane landed unexpectedly at the Riverton Regional Airport last week reportedly after experiencing engine problems along its route.

The incident was listed as a "plane crash" on law enforcement reports, but airport operator Kevin Lee said the aircraft experienced a safe landing at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28.

"There wasn't a crash," Lee said. "They just had an engine problem and declared they were going to land here."

Lee said the plane was carrying a patient, who likely was transported later by another craft. The problem plane still is grounded at RRA, he added.

"They're still sitting here," Lee said.

The Riverton Volunteer Fire Department was summoned to the scene Thursday morning, but Lee said firefighters were told to disregard the call once the plane landed safely. He said airport officials were on scene to assist in case of an emergency.

"We have a fire rescue truck up here that we're all certified on," Lee said.

"That was out of the station waiting, but everything was fine. It landed with no problems."
