Death penalty an option in triple slaying

POWELL -- The death penalty is one option prosecutors are considering pursuing against two teens suspected of killing three people in Clark.

Deputy Park County Attorney Sam Krone told a civic group Wednesday that "all options are on the table" and that prosecutors need to discuss them with the victims' family.

Investigators say 18-year-old Tanner Vanpelt and 19-year-old Stephen Hammer of Cody went to the home of Ildiko Freitas to steal her Audi but ended up shooting her and her parents during the robbery.

The Powell Tribune reported that the case was discussed at a luncheon with local state lawmakers. Krone, who is also a state representative, was asked about the death penalty.

Sen. Hank Coe of Cody said the slayings were a "hard, hard thing for this community."

UW spring enrollment up by 171 students

LARAMIE -- The University of Wyoming reports that 12,873 students have enrolled for the spring semester.

The number represents an increase of 171 students from the 2011 spring semester and 34 students from the 2012 spring semester.

UW Vice President for Student Affairs Sara Axelson says after all outreach school numbers are counted, student enrollment should again surpass 13,000 by the end of the spring 2013 semester. Spring enrollment normally is lower than fall semester numbers. UW set an enrollment record last fall, with close to 14,000 students taking classes on the Laramie campus and through the outreach school.
