Mar 13, 2013 - By Craig Blumenshine, Staff WriterThe Riverton Wolverines boys basketball team was not the only RHS squad to come back to Riverton from Casper with hardware last week.
The Riverton High School cheerleaders, under the direction of Meloni Walker and Jordan Giddings, placed second behind state champion Kelly Walsh in the 11-team Class 4-A non-stunt cheer category. The event was held at the Casper Events Center just prior to the start of the Class 3-A and Class 4-A boys and girls state high school basketball tournaments.
The cheerleaders also placed sixth out of nine teams in the all-girl cheer category. Cheyenne South won its second consecutive state championship in that competition.
The RHS girls dance team, coached by Kim Krieger and Amy Linck, placed ninth in the Class 4-A dance competition, also held at the events center.
"They did great, and we are so proud of the way they performed. It's probably been ten years since we placed or brought home a trophy," Giddings said following the competition.
Both the RHS cheer and dance squads performed at the boys and girls state basketball tournament in Casper.
