Hinman, Miller grab buckles for Rustlers at Gillette rodeo

CWC starts a three-day rodeo at Colorado State on Thursday.

Colton Miller and Danni Jo Hinman won different rodeo events for Central Wyoming College Sunday at Gillette College.

Miller took the saddle bronc title with a score of 68.

The Gillette College event opened the spring portion of the two-part college rodeo season.

The victory put Miller third in the Central Rocky Mountain regional standings.

"Considering that the whole team wasn't there, I think that we had a very good showing in our first spring," CWC coach Drew Schrock. "Out of the 12 kids that were entered for CWC, we had four of them make it back to the short round on Sunday."

Miller has pilled up 300 points in the regular season in saddle bronc. Ezekiel Thurston from Sheridan College is first in the standings at 420 points.

Miller won the regional saddle bronc title last year.

Hinman and brother David Hinman from Northeastern Junior College in Colorado finished first in the team roping competition in Gillette.

The pair had a time of 13.9 seconds in the three-day rodeo.

CWC's Toby Dunlavy placed fourth in the breakaway roping (16.5 seconds).

CWC finished fourth in the women's team standings ;ast weekend in the rodeo arena.

The CWC Rustlers scored 235 points. Eastern Wyoming College won the team title (387.50 points) and Northeastern Junior College ended second (317.50).

The CWC men were seventh in the team standings with 180 points.

Sheridan College claimed the top trophy (440).

"I was very pleased with the whole performance. We are looking forward to the Colorado State University rodeo," Schrock said.

After the CSU rodeo, the Rustlers have three more left in the spring season, in Torrington, Casper and Laramie.
