County 4-H club members to run annual fundraising carnival April 6

Mar 31, 2013 - From staff reports

Fremont County 4-H's annual fundraising carnival "Famous Places" is Saturday, April 6. The event begins at 5 p.m. and continues until 9 p.m. at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton.

The 4-H Carnival is full of good, clean family fun that benefits the youth of the community. There are games and prizes for children of all ages and abilities, and game tickets arc priced for budget-conscious families. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

More than 20 game and food booths will be operating, including a cake walk, ring tosses, basketball, roping, golfing and two dozen other games of chance. Food will be plentiful that evening too, with sausages, hot dogs, chili, candy, cookies, popcorn and soft drinks available.

In keeping with the 4-H mission to build leadership skills, the children are the ones who put on the 4-H Carnival. Club members ranging in age from 8 to 18 years old plan, design, build and run the game and concession booths. Proceeds are used to support 4-H programs at the county level, including scholarships, sponsoring judging teams, speech and talent contests, camps, leadership and citizenship conferences.

With more than 7 million young people, 4-H has grown to become the largest youth development organization in the United States. Members learn leadership, citizenship and life skills by completing projects of their choice in more than 70 subject areas, including archery, vet science, computers, international intrigue, photography, foods and nutrition, rocketry, needlecraft and livestock projects.

There are 35 4-H clubs and nearly 500 members in Fremont County. Roughly 450 adults serve as adult volunteer 4-H leaders.
