Ruth Irmgard Schierwagen died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Riverton Memorial Hospital. She was 84 years old.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton. Interment follows at Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation is from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Ruth Irmgard Schierwagen was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Hillside, N.J., the daughter of Walter and Herta Kaiser. Her school years were spent in Mount Vernon, N.Y., where she graduated from Davis High School in 1947.

She married Arnhold Schierwagen on May 16, 1952.

Mrs. Schierwagen worked as a typist at the Engineering Library in New York City. She then worked as a typesetter for a commercial printing firm in Pearl River, N.Y. Upon retiring, the couple moved to Riverton.

She studied music since she was 6 years old and played the piano, violin and pipe organ. She was an organist and music director for 50 years.

Her family said she enjoyed Bible study classes, music, reading, crafts and meeting with friends and family.

She was a volunteer for Riverton Memorial Hospital as a treasurer and held several other duties since 1989. She also volunteered for Little Wind Hospice since the beginning in 1994. She worked at most health fairs and craft fairs, and she was active in the Baptist church.

She is survived by her sons, Ernie Schierwagen and his wife Glenda of Riverton and Paul Schierwagen of Eldred, N.Y.; daughters Elizabeth Chance and her husband Dale of Brookville, Ohio, Millie Hoffmann of Riverton, and Dorothy Jones and her husband Chuck of Middletown, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Wind Hospice or to the Cornerstone Church.
