Apr 15, 2013 - StaffWith her children cheering and carrying signs that said, "Go mamma go!" and "My mamma never gives up!" former Riverton High School track and field runner Tiffany Piplica Hartpence finished the Boston Marathon on Monday with a time of three hours, 42 minutes, 55 seconds.
Her half-marathon time was 1:47:07 and her minutes-per-mile splits averaged between 8:10 and 8:41.
The Ranger will have more about Hartpence's race in upcoming editions.
Before her run, Hartpence noted that she had trained roughly 475 miles (more than 65 hours of running) and burned 50,000 calories in the last 90 days.
Hartpence is the wife of Samuel Hartpence of Lander and is the daughter of Susie and George Piplica of Riverton.
Two other Lander runners, Katie Everson and Gary Wilmot, also completed the race with times of 3:37:42 and 3:14:14 respectively.
UPDATE: The New York Times reported, "Two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon have resulted in injuries." Hartpense, in a Facebook post, reported that she and her family were safe noting, "2 bombs at finish line. We are ok, hiding at small cafe :((. Pray for Boston."
