The balloons are comingApr 25, 2013 By Steven R. Peck
Now's the time to show your interest in sponsoring a pilot for the July rally
Would you like to fly in a beautiful balloon?
The opening lyrics to the hit song by the Fifth Dimension in 1967 often have been used in connection with hot-air balloon rallies. Riverton's 33rd annual balloon rally comes up in July, and it's time now for balloon sponsors to think about getting involved this year.
If you have never sponsored a balloon in the Riverton Rendezvous balloon rally, then you ought to talk to someone who has. The experience is praised almost universally as exciting, fun and rewarding.
Plus, as a sponsor, you get to fly in a beautiful balloon.
The Riverton Rendezvous committee is now at work organizing the 33rd annual Rendezvous celebration, which includes the ballon rally, July 19, 20 and 21. The rally begins officially with a sponsor and pilot get-together Friday afternoon, but many balloonists show up early for the Friday morning "media flight." There's also a tailgate party Saturday where sponsors and pilots can get to know each other better following the breathtaking early-morning flight. Sponsors typically get to fly three times and can provide flight opportunities for co-workers and family and friends as well.
Pilots often compete for the local prizes offered on Saturday and Sunday morning flights, and it can be exciting to be in the balloon basket as a pilot tries to hit a mark on the ground with a beanbag or snare an above-ground target suspended from a pole.
It costs $500 to sponsor a balloon, or $300 to split a sponsorship with someone else. That is a significant amount of money for many people and small businesses, but with planning and cooperation, sponsorship money can be raised over time or shared with another sponsoring entity to help lessen the financial burden and share the fun.
Few businesses, service groups or families that have sponsored a balloon would ever claim that it wasn't well worth the money.
Our Riverton Rendezvous balloon rally is a unique part of our Fremont County summer, the guaranteed provider of lifelong memories tied to beauty and exhilaration, and life experiences that few people ever have the chance to know.
Sponsorship also gives sponsors an opportunity to publicize a business, church, service group, family or simply a cause. That's just one of the many benefits, both tangible and intangible, that go along with being a balloon rally sponsor.
Riverton Rendezvous runs one of the best community balloon rallies in the country. A big part of that is because of the support of balloon sponsors.
Balloon sponsorship is a first-come, first-served situation, so if you're interested, now is the time to act. The people to call are Georgia Davis or Courtney Bohlender through the City of Riverton at 856-1123 or 857-7706.
Please consider sponsoring a balloon. You'll be in for one of the greatest times of your life.
