Boys play at 5 p.m. Friday - league title on the line

May 3, 2013 By Craig Blumenshine, Staff Writer

With renewed hope for a Class 4-A West conference championship at stake, the Riverton Wolverines will try to claw their way to the league title with their final two regular season home games this Friday and Saturday against Green River and Evanston.

Both games are at at Wolverine Field. Game time Friday is 5 p.m., and Saturday's match begins at 12 p.m.

Up for grabs is an automatic berth into the state tournament if Riverton can finish first or second in the conference.

The math is pretty simple. Two wins equals one Class 4-A West crown.

Earlier this year on the road, the Wolverines lost to Green River 4-1 but beat an improved Evanston team 2-1.

Riverton's record stands at 5-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the Class 4-A West.

"They should be good games. We are excited for them. We have the reins," Cornejo said.

The Riverton Lady Wolverines also compete Friday and Saturday, but both of their games are on the road. Friday, Riverton will challenge Green River, a team that has proved to be its nemesis. RHS travels to Evanston for Saturday's match.

At home earlier this season, Riverton fell to Green River 3-0 but beat Evanston 5-0.

The Lady Wolverines are 4-6-1 overall and 3-5 in the Class 4-A West, good enough for fourth place behind Natrona, Green River and Kelly Walsh which all have at least six conference wins.
